Fan Art Friday: Hollywood or Bust!

Fan Art by Tom Racine.

This week’s Fan Art is from Tom Racine.

Yes, that Tom Racine. Podcaster, video editing guru, English tea drinker, cartoonist and the by far, the best Jean Luc Picard impersonator in Southern California.

I’ve known of, listened to, communicated with Tom for probably a couple of years now. And over that time I’m proud to say he has become a very good (albeit distant) friend.

Tom is one of those people who is passionate about the whole spectrum of ‘cartoon art’ and that enthusiasm comes across in his brilliant Tall Tale Radio podcast.

What do you mean you haven’t listened to it yet?

Shame on you! Here’s a link to this web site, where you can subscribe and download the latest episode.

You can also scour the archives and find interviews with cartooning megastars like, Pastis, Tatulli, Thompson the list goes on. However, you will also find in-depth interviews with up and coming talent which are equally fascinating.

If you feel the urge to draw some Mighty Monocle Fan Art, do it! Then send it to me! I love getting them and I also like sharing them with readers like you on the blog.

Thanks for visiting,

ROLFE

ROLFE Redux #6: Smell the greasepaint, or is that cat food?

by admin on April 27th, 2011

Published in the Times Metro, around the late 90’s.

Morning,

Quick little Redux post for you this morning. I can’t find the date that this was originally published. But it was, honest!

This was one of my quick, little pocket cartoons, for the Time Metro section.

This is one of my favourite cartoons ever. It’s so simple.

Enjoy,

ROLFE

Fan Art Friday: Late but Great!

by admin on April 22nd, 2011

Evening,

Apologies for the lateness post. I’ve been off work this week, so have been juggling days out, DIY and daughter time.

This fan art was sent me to me from the amazingly talented John Sanford.

John is probably best known as the creator of Chippy & Loopus. John is a veteran of the web comics scene with an impressive 5 year run on Chippy & Loopus under his belt. That’s why he’s one of my ‘go to’ friends I bug for advice.

He’s been there, done it and wrote the web comic!

Not happy with just one web comic, John has recently launched another web comic called ‘K&J’ with his wife, Sara.

John is the artist/editor and Sara writes the scripts. K&J is loosely based on the experiences of Sara growing up as Korean/American citizen.

It’s definitely worth checking out, as it is so different to anything else out there at the moment. Touching, poignant, funny are some of the words I would use to describe it. Plus, with the added husband/wife partners it adds a whole different dimension to it.

So please go and check out John and Sara’s work. But as you’re already why not check out the latest Mighty Monocle strip first! It’s in amazing technicolour this week!

Many thanks,

ROLFE

ROLFE Redux #5: Run…

by admin on April 20th, 2011

Published Private Eye and Readers’ Digest, 1998.

Afternoon,

Sorry, I normally post these first thing. But I forgot! No excuses, I was out enjoying the Spring sunshine with the family.

The cartoon above was published in Private Eye, then Digest picked it up, and then I think I even sold a hand drawn original. That treble-bonus only ever happened once!

I was thinking long and hard about which cartoon to post. It so happened I was listening to the latest Tall Tale Radio with Tom Racine. He was interviewing Rina Piccolo and she mentioned ‘Godzilla’. I won’t say any more than that, but I will say why haven’t you listened to it ALREADY? Rina is amazing and Tom ain’t too shabby.

Here’s a link to that podcast: http://talltalefeatures.com/2011/04/17/episode-115-rina-piccolo/

Enjoy,

ROLFE
