ROLFE Redux #9: Armageddon

by admin on May 18th, 2011
Posted In: Blog

Morning,

Super quick post today. I did this cartoon the very same week that the film “Armageddon” came out.

It was published in the Times’ Metro section. Which was kind of like a watered down, thinner version of the Time Out listing pages. They popped in these small, one spot cartoons here and there to break up the columns of small type.

I hope you like it.

Fan Art Friday: Road Apples Almanac

by admin on May 13th, 2011

This week’s fantastic Fan Art is from Don Ahé, creator of the webcomic Road Apples Almanac.

Road Apples Almanac is a comic strip about an otter named Aldous, his dog Shep and their journey together. It appears every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Don is another one of the of handful cartoonists I’ve been lucky to strike up a rapport with, since I’ve launched my own webcomic. Don’s beautiful loose linework reminds me a little of the work of Alfred Bestall, illustrator of the world-famous Rupert the Bear comic strip.

So why not head over and check out Road Apples Almanac it’s a beautifully drawn webcomic.

Thanks for reading,

ROLFE

ROLFE Redux #8: Take the blue pill?

Published in Punch magazine during the late 90’s.

Morning,

This cartoon was published in the late 90’s. ‘Viagra’ drug stories had just started to get serious ‘column inches’ in the newspapers… no pun intended!

It was published in Punch, where you could push the limits just that little bit more.

Enjoy

p.s. Enjoy ROLFE Redux? Well, why not check out my new webcomic you can do that right here!

Fan Art Friday: After Hours!

by admin on May 6th, 2011

This week’s fantastic Fan Art is from Paul Westover, co-creator of the webcomic Woody After Hours.

Woody After Hours is a webcomic about a late night talk show in Raleigh, NC. Contrary to what you may have thought, the title is not meant to imply that the comic is, or is about, porn. Sorry.

WAH is written by Ben Carter and illustrated by Paul Westover.  There is a new comic every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday Woody reviews late night talk shows such as The Tonight Show, Late Night and The Late Show. So you’re guaranteed five days of entertainment each week.

Paul is a jolly nice chap and one of a handful cartoonists I’ve been lucky to strike up a rapport with, since I’ve launched my own webcomic.

So why not head over and check out Woody After Hours it’s brilliant!

Thanks for reading,

ROLFE

ROLFE Redux #7: Award winning

Unpublished. But, later appeared in an article in the Times newspaper.

Morning,

This little cartoon won me the prized title of ‘Times Young Cartoonist of the Year 1997’. The competition was never repeated. So, technically that makes me the ‘Undefeated Times Young Cartoonist of the Year 1997’.

The rules stated that work had to be from an amateur, I was. Under 30, I was. Not be previously published elsewhere, they weren’t!

At the time I was having a some relative success with Punch Magazine. My editor at the time, Steve Way suggested I enter and the rest is history!

Yes, I went to a not very glitzy award ceremony to get my prize, presented to me by the one and only, Gerald Scarfe!

It was a cash prize if I remember correctly. I spent the proceeds on an original framed cartoon and this new whizzy technology called a fax machine. This enabled me, to not have to trawl the streets of London in the early hours, to deliver my cartoons by hand.

I hope you like it,

ROLFE
